Bareilly — A review meeting on the scheduling of programs to mark the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi on October 2, 2026, was held yesterday at the Collectorate auditorium under the chairmanship of District Magistrate Avinash Singh.
During the meeting, the District Magistrate reviewed preparations for the Gandhi Jayanti programs and issued necessary directions to the concerned officials.
He directed the District Basic Education Officer and District School Inspector that, in view of the possibility of rain, young children should not be included in the Gandhi Jayanti programs so that they do not face any difficulty. He also directed officials to organize a district-level exhibition under the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan in the presence of local public representatives, and instructed that photos and videos from the exhibition be uploaded on social media with the hashtag “Mere Sapno Ka Bharat” (India of My Dreams).
He directed the Municipal Commissioner to ensure special cleanliness arrangements in slum areas. The District Development Officer was directed to organize street plays (nukkad nataks) across all assembly constituencies of the district, while the District Programme Officer was instructed to hold felicitation ceremonies for ASHA workers and Anganwadi workers at all Anganwadi centres.
The meeting decided that special programs be organized in areas connected to Mahatma Gandhi’s notable work — such as leprosy ashrams and old-age homes — along with cleanliness drives in slum areas. Tree plantation was to be carried out at suitable locations, and care taken to ensure the survival of previously planted trees. It was also decided that non-violence be observed on this special day.
The City Magistrate informed the meeting that the national flag would be hoisted at all government buildings in the morning, and that portraits of Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri would be unveiled and garlanded at all government, semi-government buildings, offices, and educational institutions, with their ideals highlighted on the occasion. Gandhiji’s favourite bhajan, “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram,” would be sung collectively. He said all programs would be held at their scheduled times. The Municipal Corporation would ensure proper cleanliness arrangements at the Mahatma Gandhi statue park located at Chowki Chauraha, and the Forest Department would install tree guards at locations where new trees are planted.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate (City) Avinash Tripathi, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Vishram Singh, District Development Officer Dinesh Kumar, District Panchayati Raj Officer Kamal Kishore, District School Inspector Ajit Singh, District Basic Education Officer Vineet Shukla, and other officials of concerned departments.
